Club For The Galacticly Stupid

Editor's Note: I started using the term "Galacticly Stupid" in articles this year and then decided to create a regular post with that name called the "Club For The Galacticly Stupid".

The term is from the movie "A Few Good Men" bellowed out by Tom Cruise in frustration at Demi Moore's lack of legal sense involving the case he was defending. I find that it fits the things I see going on in reality.

I just can't believe people who have risen to prominence or high positions - so must be reasonably intelligent- can say the ridiculous things they say, and presumably believe.  It's clear that some of these people are just as stupid as they sound. It is also clear that some of them sold their integrity for 12 pieces of silver - that being a combination of money and notoriety- and it is clear that some are so committed to their insane ideologies they are incapable of changing.   So determined are they to stick to these ideologies they'll adopt any irrational rambling in an attempt to justify their positions.  That makes them insane.  I don’t know which I find more disturbing; those in power who are stupid or those in power who are insane.

I hope you find these offerings insightful.

Sonia Sotomayor Through the Looking Glass, By Rich Lowry In the justice’s upside-down world, prohibiting racial discrimination is racial discrimination.  All you really need to know about Supreme Court justice Sonia Sotomayor’s dissent in this week’s affirmative-action case is that Attorney General Eric Holder praised it as “courageous.” There’s a strong presumption that whatever meets Holder’s approval will be insipid or politically stilted or both, and Sotomayor’s opinion doesn’t disappoint on either count.......

Democrat: Maybe Committee Should Hold Issa in Contempt
April 10, 2014 - By Susan Jones
"The only reason we haven't been able to get the truth from Lois Lerner is because of one person. And that is our chairman," Rep. Steve Horsford (D-Nev.) told the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on Thursday, as the panel considered a contempt of Congress resolution against the former IRS official.....To Read More......

‘Gay’ Lawmaker to Christians: ‘We’ll Take Your Children’
Written on Sunday, August 25, 2013 by J. Matt Barber

Few people doubt that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie hopes to become president in 2016. Unfortunately for him, he may have just signed away any chance of that.
Last week, Christie signed A3371, a draconian piece of legislation that bars licensed therapists from helping children overcome unwanted same-sex attractions, behavior or identity. This law bans help for minors even when – as is so often the case – those same-sex attractions arise from childhood sexual abuse by the likes of a Jerry Sandusky.
This law will prohibit minors and their parents from receiving counseling they desire and will force counselors to violate ethical codes because they will not be able to help clients reach their own counseling goals. This law would enslave children – whether abused or not – to a subjectively determined sexual identity that they reject....[beyond] violating their first amendment rights......The governor is one of three things. He is either: 1) ill-informed, 2) politically motivated or 3) stupid.
I don’t know, I guess he could be 4) all of the above.....To Read More….

Former Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., responding to al-Qaeda’s criticism of his sexual orientation in the latest issue of their magazine, compared the terrorist organization to the Tea Party and cracked that the two groups are “aligned” with each other against gay marriage.  “I wonder how the right wing in America feels about being aligned with al-Qaeda?” Frank said to Buzzfeed, adding that “there is an irony that the most active anti-gay [groups] are al-Qaeda and the American right-wing.”
The latest issue of Al-Qaeda’s Inspire magazine spotlights “Barney Frank, Gay Congressman, Symbol of the American Dream” to argue that the United States is “a nation standing on no values.”   “It sounded like what the Tea Party said when I got married,” Frank replied.  Frank’s comments come about a week after an NPR analyst suggested that “anti-government, right-wing” terrorists attacked the Boston Marathon.

Comic-relief Representative Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.), who last month told Americans that assault weapons are killing “millions of kids” in the United States, is suing seven lawmakers — including House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) — to have his House Censure from 2010 overturned. You may remember that clownfest from three years ago. The House smacked Rangel hard, voting 333-79 in favor of the rebuke for Rangel’s admitted involvement in:.....
........Michelle Malkin noted Monday that Rangel might be courting disaster by asking for an examination of how the Ethics Committee did its investigative work. It’s possible, after all, it didn’t catch every crime and malfeasance the first time around.

My Take - I would be willing to bet that almost everyone else in the United States who dodged income taxes on rental property for 17 years, filed misleading documents knowingly to the IRS, failed to report three million in dealings from 2002 to 2006 and didn't list the earnings on the sale of property would have had to worry about a lot more than censure.  He didn't go to jail, he didn't lose his seat in Congress, he didn't' pay the big fines ordinary citizens would have paid, and he is still whining.   In fact two other prominent Democrats,  former Senator Tom Daschle and Tim Geithner who became Secretary of the Treasury all were also caught making “honest” or “careless” mistakes so none of them had to pay the penalties everyone else would have to pay.  I can’t wait for him to declare that it was all inspired by racism.

Chief of US Pacific forces calls climate biggest worry
Admiral Samuel J. Locklear III met privately with security and foreign policy specialists at Harvard and Tufts universities Thursday and Friday. America’s top military officer in charge of monitoring hostile actions by North Korea, escalating tensions between China and Japan, and a spike in computer attacks traced to China provides an unexpected answer when asked what is the biggest long-term security threat in the Pacific region: climate change.
Navy Admiral Samuel J. Locklear III, in an interview at a Cambridge hotel Friday after he met with scholars at Harvard and Tufts universities, said significant upheaval related to the warming planet “is probably the most likely thing that is going to happen . . . that will cripple the security environment, probably more likely than the other scenarios we all often talk about.’’  To Read More....

Maduro claims Chavez swung race for Argentine pope
AFP
Venezuela's acting president Nicolas Maduro joked on Wednesday that late leftist president Hugo Chavez's recent death must have played into the selection of the first Latin American pope.  "We know that our commander has risen up there and is face to face with Christ," Maduro said, to an outburst of laughter at a political event, just over a week after Chavez died following 14 years in charge of Venezuela.  "Something must have influenced things so that a South American pope was chosen. Some new hand arrived and got to Christ and said: It is South America's time. That's what I think," Maduro, Chavez' handpicked successor, declared. "One of these days he is going to call a constitutional congress in heaven to change the church in the world, so that the people, only Christ's pure people rule in this world," he predicted......

(CNSNews.com) - After the election of Pope Francis I on Wednesday, Vice President Joe Biden issued a statement talking about the importance of Catholicism to him personally and how much he is looking forward to working with the pope.
As vice president, Biden has advanced causes directly contrary to the teachings of the Catholic Church--favoring, for example, the legalized killing of children in the womb and legalized same-sex marriage.
"Jill and I want to offer our congratulations to His Holiness Pope Francis, and extend our prayers as he takes on this holy responsibility," said Biden….

Solicitor General Donald B. Verrilli Jr., speaks at Georgetown Law School.  The Obama Justice Department is arguing in the United States Supreme Court that children do not need mothers.   The Justice Department’s argument on the superfluity of motherhood is presented in a brief the Obama administration filed in the case of Hollingsworth v. Perry, which challenges the constitutionality of Proposition 8, the California ballot initiative that amended California’s Constitution to say that marriage involves only one man and one woman.
The Justice Department presented its conclusions about parenthood in rebutting an argument made by proponents of Proposition 8 that the traditional two-parent family, led by both a mother and a father, was the ideal place, determined even by nature itself, to raise a child.   The Obama administration argues this is not true. It argues that children need neither a father nor a mother and that having two fathers or two mothers is just as good as having one of each….

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.) said today that the government must cut spending, and then explained that: “Tax cuts are spending.”  “Our whole budget is what $3.5 trillion,” Pelosi said at a Capitol Hill press conference. “So, when we talk about reducing spending, we certainly must, and we certainly have--$1.6 trillion in the previous Congress, $1.2 of it in the Budget Control Act….

Demi Moore is seeking spousal support from estranged husband Ashton Kutcher.  The actress states in a court filing Thursday that she also wants the "Two and a Half Men" star to pay her attorney's fees in the divorce proceedings.  Kutcher filed for divorce in December, more than a year after Moore announced the marriage was over. Kutcher didn't take a position in his filings on whether he should pay Moore any spousal support….

The U.N. Human Rights Council was criticized Wednesday for holding a minute of silence to honor Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, a decision that again illustrated the tension between the body’s actions and its professed commitment to upholding human rights around the world.  “He worked tirelessly not only for his people, but for the betterment of the nations of Latin America and the Caribbean,” said Cuba’s Anayansi Rodriguez. “Under his leadership, Venezuela reached the peak of its history."
(CNSNews.com) - Del. Eleanor Norton (D-District of Columbia) says private sector jobs are not showing much growth because the federal government is shrinking.
“What is shrinking is not the private sector – it’s hard for them to grow because the public sector, both the state sector and the federal government is shrinking and they are having to grow it all by themselves and that is why we don’t have much growth,” Holmes Norton said.
The delegate discussed her economic theory during last Friday’s House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee hearing on "The Impact of Sequestration on Women and Families."…..

(CNSNews.com) – House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said on Thursday that she would like to see a balanced budget, “in a number of decades.”  During her weekly press conference on Capitol Hill, CNSNews.com asked Pelosi if she agreed with President Barack Obama’s recent remarks that America does not have an “immediate” debt crisis.  The U.S. debt as of Wednesday stands at $16.7 trillion.  “Well, I believe that we’re on a path to reduce the deficit,” Pelosi said.  “And I would say that—count me as one who would say I want us to be on a path to balance the budget in a number of decades."....…
A day after President Obama indicated that there will soon be a decision on the Keystone XL pipeline, the top House Democrat questioned the value of the controversial project.  House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) said the pipeline would do nothing to make the country more energy independent, while creating far fewer jobs than supporters claim.  Although she stopped short of opposing the project outright — “I want to see what the report is from the State Department” — she hinted that it would do more harm than good.
(CNSNews.com) – Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.), the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee,  said on Thursday that the nation’s current debt of $16.7 trillion is “not endangering” the country,  adding that “some debt is not a bad idea” and that he and other congressional Democrats “don’t think there’s a problem.”  Conyers and other liberal Democrats spoke at a Capitol Hill press conference about their initiative to compel Congress to cancel the across-the-board budget cuts (sequester) of  $1.2 trillion over 10 years, which actually are reductions in the rate of increase in federal spending and amount to $44 billion for this year.....

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) on Thursday compared the series of automatic budget cuts that took effect on March 1, known as sequester, to the Japanese tsunami of 2011 that killed more than 15,000 people and left millions more without power and water, while sparking a nuclear reactor meltdown.

Many people find that as they grow older and become more informed about various cultural phenomena, they become more conservative (that is, prudent) in their views, and that many of the iconic pop idols they followed unquestioningly in their earlier years turn out to have been, if not downright bad influences, rather dubious in their overall messages even if sometimes still supremely great in the artistic sense.
I’ve stumbled into some skillful help in dispelling part of that lingering mystique, especially when it comes to certain bona-fide legends of the rock and roll stage and studio.
Five years ago, writer and political humorist Evan Sayet delivered an earth-shaking speech at The Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C., which the late Andrew Breitbart called “one of the five most important conservative speeches ever given.”  ….. To Read More...
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said Thursday that the news media have an “obligation” to report that the Republicans are “unwilling to do what the American people want done” on looming automatic, across-the-board budget cuts.  During a news conference on Capitol Hill held on the eve of implementation of the cuts, known on Capitol Hill as “The Sequester,” a reporter asked Reid: “Can you understand the frustration of the American people that you’re blaming the Republicans, the Republicans are blaming you and nobody is talking until the day that these cuts kick in?”  Reid replied: “You know I read an editorial today, and I don’t know whether it was the Times or the Post, where the op-ed writer said, ‘You know, let’s call it the way it is. The Republicans aren’t willing to deal with the Democrats.  “So all this stuff--Democrats aren’t doing anything, Republicans aren’t doing anything--I believe that you guys have an obligation to report it the way it is,”..

Rep. Donna Edwards (D-Md.) said that if the sequester goes into effect, women who are victims of domestic violence will be “forced to stay in their homes with their abuser” at the “hands of the GOP.”  The automatic across-the-board cuts, known as the sequester, are set to take effect on Friday – a 1.2% reduction in increased federal spending in 2013, or about $44 billion out of $3.6 trillion. Edwards called the cuts the “Republicans failure,” and said they are “taking a sledge hammer” to the nation’s domestic violence shelters and programs….

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney insisted that no one at the White House threatened Washington Post journalist  Bob Woodward over his reporting, despite what Woodward asserted on Wednesday during a CNN interview. Though Woodward did not initially say who made the threat during the CNN interview, it was later revealed to Politico that it was Obama’s chairman of the National Economic Council, Gene Sperling, who made the apparently foreboding remarks in an e-mail to Woodward.  “Gene Sperling, in keeping with a demeanor I have been familiar with for more than 20 years, was incredibly respectful,” Carney told reporters on Thursday. “It referred to Mr. Woodward as his friend and apologized for raising his voice. I think you cannot read those e-mails and come away with the impression that Gene was threatening anybody, as I think others have observed.”

Yale is considering joining Brown, Penn, Harvard and Cornell universities by picking up the tab for Ivy League students who want sex changes.  The New Haven, Conn., school is still reviewing policies regarding the procedure for its 5,322 undergraduate students and its 6,526 graduate and professional students, but has already extended gender reassignment coverage to employees.  "The benefit is offered to faculty and staff, and is being considered for students," Yale spokeswoman Karen Peart told FoxNews.com in an email. "Cost would vary depending on treatment."  Gabriel Murchison, a member of Yale’s Resource Alliance for Gender Equity (RAGE), told FoxNews.com gender reassignment surgery is just one of several areas where student health care should be on par with that offered to faculty, staff and their dependents....
And now a few comments from the Club's President, Maxine Walters.
Maxine Waters (D., Calif.), in an attempt to outdo President Obama’s claims that even minor cuts will bring the republic’s long run to an ignominious end, warned today that the sequester could cause “over 170 million jobs” to be lost.
This post claimed that only 134 million people have jobs. However, "This is very disturbing news," said Jonah Goldberg, because according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, fewer than 113 million Americans have full time jobs. Either way....how can you lose more jobs than exist? Don't you just love Maxine. You'll always know you're right if you take a view opposing hers. Thank you Maxine!

I know it is hard to match that kind of inspirational commentary, but the Club's Vice President has a few thoughts also.
While saying the federal deficit does indeed need to be curtailed, Mr. Bloomberg argued the United States could owe “an infinite amount of money” and there is no specific amount that would cause the country to default. “We are spending money we don’t have,” Mr. Bloomberg explained. “It’s not like your household. In your household, people are saying, ‘Oh, you can’t spend money you don’t have.’ That is true for your household because nobody is going to lend you an infinite amount of money. When it comes to the United States federal government, people do seem willing to lend us an infinite amount of money. … Our debt is so big and so many people own it that it’s preposterous to think that they would stop selling us more. It’s the old story: If you owe the bank $50,000, you got a problem. If you owe the bank $50 million, they got a problem. And that’s a problem for the lenders. They can’t stop lending us more money.”…
One of Bloomberg’s ‘Mayors Against Illegal Guns’ Arrested For Trying to Force Man to Have Sex With Him … at Gunpoint

One of the gun-grabbing members of Michael Bloomberg’s organization, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, recently found himself trying to lure a man into a sexual encounter through the liberal use of alcohol.  When the charm and alcohol didn’t do the trick, James ‘Jay’ Schiliro (R) decided to go a different route – firing a handgun into a wall in an attempt at intimidation.   The mayor who, as the title suggests, is against illegal guns, was forced to hand over his firearm collection, and has been charged with several crimes........an article in the Daily Local News indicates the mayor tried to dump his firearm collection, selling eight weapons shortly after the incident....To Read More…..

Schwarzenegger: ‘Over the last 100 years, sea levels have risen about 7 inches’ in SanFran Bay; - Reality: No sea level rise in last 70 years - Arnold needs to stop reading the propaganda and get some facts.  In his LATimes op-ed, Ah-nold says:  "This report spells out many other negative effects that rising temperatures will cause in California. Over the last 100 years, sea levels have risen about 7 inches, and the San Francisco Bay Area is already feeling the effects. A sewage system there was flooded with saltwater, and the 101 Freeway has seen flooding. This isn’t a distant threat."

French president François Hollande has bowed to massive pressure for business tax cuts to pull France’s economy out of slump and stave off industrial decline, ditching a core element of his socialist platform.   Company taxes will fall by €20bn a year equal to 1pc of GDP, to be phased in gradually by 2015 under a convoluted system of rebates.
Premier Jean-Marc Ayrault said it amounted to a 6pc cut in unit labour costs, enough to close the gap with eurozone rivals. "France is not condemned to a spiral of decline, but we need a national jolt to regain control of our destiny," he said. The mid-rate of VAT for restaurants and services will jump from 7pc to 10pc. The top rate will rise slightly to 20pc. Spending cuts will plug the revenue gap in order to meet the EU’s 3pc deficit target.
Critics call it the most humiliating U-turn in French politics since François Mitterrand abandoned his disastrous experiment of "Socialism in one country" under a D-Mark currency peg in 1983. Mr Hollande came to office vowing lower VAT rates to protect the buying power of workers, and called business tax cuts a "gift to the rich". He imposed €10bn of fresh taxes on firms just weeks ago in his 2013 budget, a move that set off a revolt by business leaders….To Read More…
My Take - Why do these people who promote all these idiotic socialist schemes have to go through all of this before they suddenly realize their schemes are disastrous and stop being stupid?  There is more than enough historical foundation to absolutely......absolutely know......that socialism is now and has always resulted in failure.  It is clear to me that Francois Hollande merits a seat on the board of directors in the Club For the Galacticly Stupid.

First lady Michelle Obama is praising what has often been one of the left’s biggest targets, Walmart, for helping to fight obesity and “food deserts” in the United States.  “At Walmart, you can believe that as America’s largest retailer, you have an obligation that goes far beyond the bottom line,” Obama said Thursday at a Walmart in Springfield, Mo. “You know that every day, with the products you sell, you’re helping parents get by on a budget -- which is what everybody in this country is trying to do. You’re helping kids get the nutrition they need to learn and grow and fulfill their God-given potential and those aren’t just business opportunities. They’re moral obligations -- truly. They’re responsibilities to the health of our families and the future of our next generation.”…To Read More…..
My Take - I do so tire of this horsepucky.  Walmart has no moral responsibility other than to obey the law and honestly make as much money for their stockholders as they can.....which is coded in law and known as “ fiduciary responsibility”.....and that's it.   Get over it!
All this  Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) claptrap these companies fall for is a clear demonstration that the guys at the top,  making the big bucks, are still capable of qualifying for the ‘Club of the Galacticly Stupid”.  When companies fail to properly identify why they are in business that is when things start to go wrong….just do your job and society can make all the other decisions.
Walmart already sold healthy foods.  I don’t care if its cake, candy, bacon or whatever else society wished to buy, the responsibility to decide what is healthy belongs to the public.  For people to be telling companies what they should be selling to society is a form of central planning, which has failed everywhere by everyone who has tried it.   It isn’t Walmart’s responsibility to tell people ‘what to buy’ it is their job to sell what the public ‘wants to buy’.   If there ever was a clear delineation between liberals (or whatever they wish to call themselves now) and conservatives this is it.  Conservatives who live a vegan lifestyle….if there are any….merely do it and keep it to themselves.  Leftists who live a vegan lifestyle aren’t happy until they can force everyone else to live one also.
I will say this.  If Michelle wishes to see that people only eat the kind of foods she approves of then let she and her friends collect enough money and buy Walmart and then sell what they deem proper......or moral as it were.  Or, if that is too expensive then start their own company in competition with Walmart and force them out of business by selling only what you determine is healthy.  I do so admire people act on their principles with their lives, money or both.  I'll be watching!

California built decades of broad-based prosperity from the Gold Rush, then Hollywood, then aerospace, and later Silicon Valley. At the turn of the century, "green jobs" were supposed to be the wave of the future. "This is not just a challenge, it's an opportunity," then-candidate Barack Obama said during a 2008 presidential debate. "Because if we create a new energy economy, we can create 5 million new jobs, easily, here in the United States."  President Obama, of course, has completely failed to deliver on this promise of 5 million new green-collar jobs……..But where the rest of the nation has rejected all or most of these proposals, California has embraced them all.  How is that going for them? …... renewable energy mandate alone will drive up electricity rates for everyone by more than 13 percent, according to the Pacific Research Institute, as utilities are forced to buy more expensive electricity from renewable sources….California will once again face rolling blackouts starting in 2015….. all these new green energy programs must at least be creating thousands of new green jobs, right? Wrong......fewer than 2,500 green jobs have been created in California since 2010. To Read More......

My Take - Once again....I thank the citizens of California for sticking to their principles.  They see the way, set the pattern and reap the consequences.  In this case all negative of course, but what would you expect when they buy into the nonsense of a man who never held a real job and then predicts a rosy future for green economics in spite of the historical foundation of unending failure in the past.  But we can be grateful that they light the path for the future.  Now all that everyone has to do is the opposite of California and success will be assured.  And after they have driven all the job creating, sane normal people, who pay all the taxes out of the state, all that will left are those who qualify for membership in the "Club For the Galacticly Stupid".

(CNSNews.com) – The “Arab spring” has benefited Islamists rather than democracy advocates, while political transitions and unrest in the region have provided opportunities for terrorists to mount attacks against U.S. interests, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper told lawmakers Tuesday.

My Take – Once again….what was the comments from the brain trust over this?  "No one could have foreseen this"!  Only if you are among the Galacticly Stupid living in the Beltway!  Everyone.....I mean everyone….. I know foresaw this as the end result of what is called the Arab Spring….the name itself indicating these media and government types were clueless from the very beginning.  I keep asking; did any of them ever read a history book?  What is happening was so obviously predictable that even the most casual observer should have known this was going to be the end result.....and it is clear that it will worsen as time goes by.
