Bob Dylan’s Nobel prize is a culturally revealing moment, not only about the miserable state of modern literature but the even-more-miserable state of modern music criticism. Let's get this straight: Dylan can't sing and can't play. The Nobel Prize committee awarded Bob Dylan with the prize for literature Thursday, which will no doubt prove to be a controversial selection. The issue is not that Dylan is yet another obscure figure the committee named apparently to score political points, nor that he writes in a language little known outside a relatively small community of native speakers. My Take - Bob Dylan stunk fifty years ago and never improved. This prize isn't about Dylan, it's about how degraded the Nobel committee has become. I often wonder what Alfred Nobel would have thought about these decisions. The lack of moral clarity in awarding the Peace Prize has been obvious, and the same view can be held about many of their decisions.
My attitude about these Nobel awards is the same I hold for the Oscars - who cares!
